  • Steven is a postdoctoral researcher and NIH K00 fellow in the Laboratory for Neural Engineering and Control. His research interests involve understanding the role of the noradrenergic system on neural circuit activity during information processing as well as neuro-immune dynamics within Alzheimer’s disease at the receptor, cellular, circuit, and behavioral level. Prior to joining the NEC lab in 2023, Steven received his PhD in Bioengineering under Dr. Takashi Kozai at the University of Pittsburgh. His doctoral research focused on understanding the brain’s immune response to implantable neural electrode arrays using a combination of in vivo multiphoton microscopy, electrophysiology, and immunohistology.

     

  • Steven K. Feiner (PhD, Brown) is Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University, where he directs the Computer Graphics and User Interfaces Lab. His research interests include human–computer interaction, augmented reality and virtual reality, 3D and 2D user interfaces, automated design of graphics and multimedia, mobile and wearable computing, health applications, computer games, and information visualization.

    Prof. Feiner is a Fellow of the ACM and the IEEE and a member of the SIGCHI Academy and the IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Academy. He is the recipient of the ACM SIGCHI 2018 Lifetime Research Award, the IEEE ISMAR 2017 Career Impact Award, the IEEE VGTC 2014 Virtual Reality Career Award, and an ONR Young Investigator Award. Together with his students and colleagues, he won the 2019 and 2022 IEEE ISMAR Impact Paper Award, the ISWC 2017 Early Innovator Award, the ACM UIST 2010 Lasting Impact Award, and best paper awards at ACM UISTACM CHIACM VRSTIEEE ISMAR, and IEEE 3DUI. His lab created the first outdoor mobile augmented reality system using a see-through head-worn display and GPS in 1996, and has pioneered experimental applications of augmented reality and virtual reality to fields as diverse as tourism, journalism, archaeology, maintenance, construction, dentistry, and medicine. Prof. Feiner has served as program chair or general chair for over a dozen ACM and IEEE conferences, and is coauthor of two editions of Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice and of Introduction to Computer Graphics (Addison-Wesley).

  • Qi Wang directs the Laboratory for Neural Engineering and Control to develop new technologies for restoring and enhancing brain functions through brain-machine interfaces (BMI). He has been working on cracking neural codes underlying our perception and cognition, and has been developing new strategies for selectively activating neural circuitry. He is particularly interested in how sensory information is processed in the brain that leads to the formation of perception and optimal decision making, and how this process is modulated by behavioral states such as attention and arousal. He utilizes experimental and computational approaches to tackle these questions, including single-unit electrophysiology, optogenetic manipulation, calcium imaging, patterned microstimulation and finite element modeling. 

    Dr. Wang received a PhD in Robotics from Harbin Institute of Technology in 1998, and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from McGill University in 2006, respectively.  He finished his postdoc training in neuroscience at Harvard University from 2006 to 2008.  He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the NSF CAREER award in 2019, the Sackler Convergence Award in 2015, the IEEE EMBS Early Career Achievement in 2014, the NARSAD Young Investigator award in 2014, and the Best Paper Award at 14th IEEE Haptics Symposium in 2006.

  • Evan is currently a second year PhD student in Qi Wang's Laboratory for Neural Engineering and Control. His current research focuses on using LC optogenetic stimulation to enhance decision making under stress, through real-time cortical EEG decoding. He hopes to develop a closed-loop system that can optimize brain stimulation paradigms through an investigation of neural oscillatory dynamics.

  • Daniel Wolpert FMedSci FRS. Daniel qualified as a medical doctor in 1989. He worked with John Stein and Chris Miall in the Physiology Department of Oxford University where he received his D.Phil. in 1992. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT in Mike Jordan's group and in 1995 joined the Sobell Department of Motor Neuroscience, Institute of Neurology as a Lecturer. In 2005 moved to the University of Cambridge where he was Professor of Engineering (1875) and a fellow of Trinity College and from 2013 the Royal Society Noreen Murray Research Professorship in Neurobiology. In 2018 Daniel joined the Zuckerman Mind Brain and Behavior Institute at Columbia University as Professor of Neuroscience and is vice-chair of the Department of Neuroscience. Daniel retains a part-time position as Director of Research at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge.

    He was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2004 and a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2012.

    He was awarded the Royal Society Francis Crick Prize Lecture (2005), the Minerva Foundation Golden Brain Award (2010),  the Royal Society Ferrier Medal (2020) and gave the Fred Kavli Distinguished International Scientist Lecture at the Society for Neuroscience (2009).
